Every year Ali Edwards does an activity called Week in the Life, where she documents a week in her life through words and pictures. I think it is a really neat idea to take a week and document it in depth. I have wanted to participate in the past but was never able to remember, and forgetting the first day is not a great way to start. My efforts to choose a week randomly and document on my own with no support were also unsuccessful. So, after receiving an email from Ali about the release of her Week in the Life kit, I thought I would get on board. Life, after all, is about to change in a big way for our family once this baby arrives.
A minor part of this blog is sharing my memory keeping activities… likely because I’m not very good at keeping my scrapbook up to date! You can see the unfortunate gap in my picture above… it’s 2017, right? I honestly think my problem is that I have too many interests, but I’m not willing to let any of them go. I really love going through my books and remembering the things we did and just how life was in general in previous months and years. Children grow up way to quickly, and I want to remember the moments of William’s childhood.
Ali’s week begins on Monday, April 17, so I am doing some prep work to make documenting this week through words and pictures as simple as possible. I have no intention of creating my scrapbook this week, just gathering the information for assembly at a later date. I have printed off Ali’s printable sheets to document my week, and put them in a plastic sleeve with a pen so that I’m prepared wherever we go next week. Like most people, I use my phone to take pictures, so I need to make sure I have enough available storage to take these pictures. Maybe I’ll have my new iPhone by then and this problem will be solved!
Ali has several blog posts on her process and past Week in the Life projects, so if you would like more information I would start there. One thing I really appreciate is her personal authenticity and realistic approach to memory keeping.
As far as the actual album goes, I have two unused Studio Calico 6×8″ Handbooks and a ton of page protectors that are the perfect size for this project. I did not purchase Ali’s kit this year, as the last thing I need is more product, but I do have my own little collection pulled from my stash which I will be using.
I feel prepared and I’ve blogged about it, which puts it out there and makes me accountable, so here’s to Monday morning and making it happen! Will you be participating in Week in the Life this year? If so, how have you prepared and what are your success strategies?
