This week has just flown by here in our house; it seems that way any time my husband works longer hours and weekends, which has been the case lately. Since he left early in the morning on Saturday, I decided to get up early myself and hit a few yard sales in town with William in tow. This isn’t something I usually do, but it turned out to be a lot of fun on a sunny morning.
I grabbed a coffee at the drive through and then headed about five minutes out of town to a sale that had advertised quilting frames and fabric in their newspaper ad. There were about six storage totes full of fabric, and I snagged some cuts of vintage looking cotton prints and a lovely yellow floral print still on the bolt for a grand total of $4. Score! I think I already know what this find will become.
I also found a nice antique wooden table for my craft room and a chair with a woven wicker back that I will stick in a corner somewhere. The chair is a bit rickety and I’m not sure it could hold a person safely, but for $5 it will look beautiful with a quilt on the back.
I am now finished all of the sampler blocks for my Wildwood quilt, and am very happy with how they all turned out. I have stuck them all up on my design board and am moving them around to find a good balance while I work on strip piecing the nine patch blocks.
Clockwise from top left: Weathervane, Ohio Star, Missouri Star, Block Nineteen, Star-and-Pinwheel, Christmas Star, Double Star, Ohio Star (variation) and Swoon (centre).
I guess it’s also time to start thinking about what colour of thread to use for quilting, and also backing fabric, which I will have to order. I like this Widescreen print by Carolyn Friedlander, but I’m not sure if it’s quite the right colour. Any suggestions? What backing have you used on your most recent project?
